Happy New Year

2016 has been an eventful year. There have been massive changes in our personal lives, a Presidential election, and an oddly high number of celebrity passings. The Cubs won the World Series, and Trump won the election, but no asteroid has struck the earth, yet! 2016 is wearing out, 2017 is coming, and we have yet to see what the future has in store.

No matter how you feel about the past year, there is always hope in the new one. It’s very easy to get wrapped up in global issues and happenings. While it’s important to be involved in the major issues, such as national leadership, climate change, and personal liberties, it’s just as important not to get TOO wrapped up in the superficial. Crazy changes are going to come and go, the circle of life is going to keep turning, and your family and community still need you.

When making your resolution this year, I encourage you to focus on something that will not only better you, but will better the world around you. We can all make silly promises to go to the gym more, eat better, or turn off our computers, but let’s find a resolution to be more involved in community activities, mentor a young person, or spend more time with family. Let’s make this the year that the human race comes together in unity and fights for the rights of those who cannot fight for themselves. Open your minds, open your hearts, and see where you can fit in this coming year to make a difference.
